Black Sea Bass
Black sea bass is a delicious and tender fish that is sustainably caught in Massachusetts waters. Although many methods are employed to catch black sea bass, much of the fishery utilizes habitat-friendly gear types. Many skiff fishermen on the Cape, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket target sea bass by either hook-and-lline or with pots, similar to lobster pots. The rod-and-reel fishery usually opens in August and closes when the quota is reached. Black sea bass populations are healthy, robust and growing, so it is a sustainable local seafood choice.
