2014 Fall Newsletter
Small Boats. Big Ideas.
Our fall newsletter is stock full of the latest from the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen's Alliance.
First read an indepth look into the skate fishery; specifically barndoor skates. This front page article showcases how the Fishermen's Alliance took action in collecting scientific data and research to help improve management. John Bullard, regional administrator of the Fisheries Service approved our study saying, "We need fishermen, with their on-the-water experience and knowledge, engaged in the science."
Next up, read a salty story from retired fisherman and Chatham Fish Pier Host Fred Bennett. He recalls his first day out on the water and how it didn't scare him away even with 50-70 mile-per-hour winds!
Continue getting to know us and our Board of Directors. Treasurer Elliott Carr walked the entire length of the Cape and wrote a book titled "Herring Run: Life and Death at Stony Brook." This book tells the story of river herring on their annual trip upstream to spawn along with their place in our economic history.
