Fishermen's Training Program

Nick HorizonHave you wanted to pursue a career on the water and not known where to start? A career on the sea as a commercial fishermen is closer than you think. The Cape's oldest profession is still viable and open to hardworking, motivated individuals who share a love of the sea and are dedicated to providing sustainable seafood to the world.

The Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen's Alliance is working with local partners and fishermen members to conduct a pilot training program that will cover basic training such as navigation, boating safety, personal survival, today's fisheries and more. The course will be offered free of charge to qualified applicants.

Students will learn about basic maritime terminology, crew responsibilities onboard different types of fishing vessels, basic knot tying, offshore survival, first aid, the Cape Cod fisheries, and the types of gears used in the region. Upon successful completion of the course, students and interested captains will be given an opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet event at the Fishermen's Alliance office to discuss potential hiring opportunities.

Our next course offering will be in 2021.

We are accepting applications for our next round of fishermen's training, which has been postponed to 2021. We continue to monitor the ongoing situation with Covid-19, will take all necessary precautions for student health and safety, and adapt the training as necessary to comply with state guidelines for conducting business.
