George Maynard

george web“Through their continuous presence on the water, fishermen represent a vast source of knowledge that can be tapped to better understand our fisheries and oceans. I am excited to play a role in developing collaborative research between the fleet and regional scientists to advance the Alliance’s goal of creating a sustainable future for Cape Cod’s fisheries.”

George joined the Alliance in October 2017. George earned his PhD at the University of Maine researching the impacts of renewable power generation on migratory fishes like Atlantic salmon, American shad, and river herring. He earned a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences from SUNY Plattsburgh and a B.S. in Natural Resources focused in fisheries management from the University of Connecticut. Over the past six years, George has published peer-reviewed research on fish behavior, physiology, and aging. Additionally, he has provided technical expertise to stakeholder groups including the hydroelectric industry, NGOs, conservation commissions, and fisheries regulators from state, federal, and tribal governments. He looks forward to helping the Cape’s fishermen incorporate their on-the-water knowledge into the fisheries management process through developing research collaborations between the Alliance and regional partners.
