Young Fishermen's Development Act
Fishermen in today's world need to know a lot more than simply how to fish. Daunting challenges have made it harder than ever for young men and women to start a fishing career -- including high cost of entry, financial risks and limited entry-level opportunities.
The Fishermen’s Alliance joined forces with small-boat fishing organizations from across the country, as the Fishing Communities Coalition, to work with a bipartisan group of legislators in both houses of Congress to craft the Young Fishermen's Development Act of 2017.
This legislation would establish the first national program to support the next generation of men and women entering the commercial fishing industry by providing the resources necessary to create smart business plans and the training they'll need to sustanably harvest America's seafood.
