THE FIRST BLUE ECONOMY - listen and watch

Podcast logo

These podcasts and videos are meant to deepen the understanding and appreciation people have for the role commercial fishing plays in the Cape’s economic and cultural identity. Beyond romantic notions, fishing boats captured by painters, and visits to fish piers, not much is known about the iconic Cape fishing industry. Conversations with commercial fishermen and shellfishermen create a greater understanding of the working waterfront. Sharing and celebrating our fishing stories strengthens the blue economy, and our sense of self.

VOICES FROM THE WHEELHOUSE

web voices

This series of 30-minute radio interviews brings the real-life experiences and personal perspectives of those who fish for a living to a broad audience, often told from a place where fishermen feel comfortable and at home --- in the wheelhouse of their boats. Our goal is to bring the voices and insights of small-boat fishermen to people who enjoy the ocean’s beauty and bounty but know little about those who bring the catch to the docks.

Listen to all of the interviews or subscribe to the podcast: WOMR-FMR

“VOICES FROM THE WHEELHOUSE” is a co-production of WOMR-FMR and the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance.  This program is supported in part by a grant from the local cultural councils listed below, which are local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency."
